９月７日の「国際識字デー」を前に、日本ユネスコ協会連盟主催のカンボジアスタディツアーに参加した本校生徒が、始業式で全校生徒へ報告を行いました。

このスタディツアーは、ユネスコスクールやユネスコ協会に所属する高校生を対象に実施されるもので、参加者はカンボジア各地を訪問し、教育・文化・医療について学びます。７月２６日～８月2日のスタディツアーでの、現地での学びや交流を通して感じたことを、写真や動画を交えながら全校生徒へ発信しました。

① 寺子屋訪問

日本ユネスコ協会連盟が推進する「世界寺子屋運動」によって設立された寺子屋を訪問し、識字教室を見学しました。

学校に通うことができない子どもたちや、文字の読み書きを学ぶ機会がないまま大人になった女性たちが、熱心に学ぶ姿が印象的でした。参加者からは、「学ぶことが好きな様子が伝わり、自分たちが当たり前に受けている教育の大切さを改めて実感した」との報告がありました。

② 世界遺産訪問

世界遺産である「アンコール・ワット」と、「カンボジアの記憶の場所群」を訪問しました。

壮大な文化遺産に触れるとともに、カンボジアが経験した歴史的な悲劇についても学び、文化を守り継ぐことの意義や平和の大切さについて理解を深める機会となりました。

③ アンコール小児病院訪問

アンコール小児病院を訪問し、病院の運営を支えるNPOの方々から活動についてお話を伺いました。

経済的な理由で十分な医療を受けることが難しい子どもたちを支える取組について学び、医療支援や国際協力の重要性について考える機会となりました。

学びを全校へ発信

今回のスタディツアーでは、教育・文化・医療というさまざまな視点からカンボジアについて学び、現地の人々との交流を通して、自分たちにできることを考える貴重な経験となりました。

報告会では、多くの写真や動画を活用しながら分かりやすく発表を行いました。参加した生徒だけでなく、話を聞いた全校生徒にとっても、ユネスコの活動や識字教育、そしてカンボジアの現状について理解を深める貴重な学習機会となりました。

As part of activities related to International Literacy Day (September 8), a student from Omiya Kita High School who participated in the Cambodia Study Tour organized by the National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan (NFUAJ) gave a presentation to the entire student body during the opening ceremony of the second semester.

The study tour is designed for high school students from UNESCO Associated Schools and UNESCO Associations. During the tour, participants visited various educational, cultural, and medical sites in Cambodia and learned about the challenges and opportunities facing local communities from July26 to August 2. Through photographs and videos, our student shared valuable experiences and reflections with fellow students.

1. Visit to a World Terakoya Community Learning Center (CLC)

The participant visited a CLC established through the NFUAJ World Terakoya Movement and observed literacy classes.

The visit provided an opportunity to out-of-school children as well as illiterate adults, particularly women. Their enthusiasm for learning left a strong impression on the participant and highlighted the importance of educational opportunities that many of us often take for granted.

2. Visits to World Heritage Sites

Participants visited Angkor Wat and the Cambodian Memorial Sites, where they learned about Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage as well as its difficult history.

The experience deepened their understanding of the importance of preserving cultural heritage and promoting peace for future generations.

3. Visit to Angkor Hospital for Children

The group also visited Angkor Hospital for Children and attended a presentation on the work of the nonprofit organizations supporting the hospital.

Through this visit, the participant learned about efforts to provide medical care for children and families who face financial challenges and reflected on the importance of international cooperation and humanitarian support.

Sharing Their Learning with the School Community

Through visits to educational, cultural, and medical institutions and interactions with people in local communities, the participant gained a broader perspective on global issues and considered how we should contribute to society.

During the presentation, photographs and videos from the study tour helped make the experiences vivid and accessible to the audience. The report provided a valuable opportunity for all students to learn more about UNESCO activities, literacy education, and contemporary Cambodia while encouraging them to think about global citizenship and sustainable development.
