２０２６年８月４日〜６日、さいたま市教育委員会主催のさいたま市模擬国連大会に参加しました。高校生が各国の大使になりきり、自国の特長をもとに世界をよくするための話し合い活動を行います。今回は、「宇宙空間の平和利用」をテーマとして話し合いが行われました。

今年度のテーマは理数教育に強みのある本校の得意分野でした。今回は自分たちの強みを最大限に活かし、自分の意見をきちっと伝えたいという想いから、日本語議場へ参加することにしました。

＜参加生徒＞

１年　三上彩香、髙橋海成

事務局から割り当てられた国は、「インド」でした。インドにおける科学技術関連企業の発展は目覚ましく、宇宙開発でも目立つようになってきています。月探査・有人飛行・民間宇宙産業の拡大を推進している国の一つです。宇宙空間の平和利用について、科学的な根拠も踏まえ、自国の利益を考えながら世界の利益を考えるということに挑戦しました。

日本語議場では、さいたま市立学校に加え大宮科学技術高校からも参加があり、多角的なアイデアがたくさん出されました。それぞれの学校が担当する国についてきちっと調べており、「世界全体の発展」「安全性の確保」「公平なルール」「短期的利益」「長期的利益」などのキーワードを織り交ぜながら、各国の大使になりきっている様子が見られました。

自国の利益と世界の利益を天秤にかけ、きちんと話し合いをしながら調整をしていくというプロセスは学級会のようであり、国際会議のようでした。世界平和は案外、学級会のような話し合いから生み出せるのかも知れません。

貴重な体験をすることができました。

On August 4-6, 2026, We participated in the Saitama City Model United Nations Conference hosted by the Saitama City Board of Education. High school students take on the roles of ambassadors from various countries and engage in discussions aimed at improving the world based on the characteristics of their respective nations. This year’s theme was “The Peaceful Use of Outer Space.”

This year’s theme aligned with our school’s strengths in science and math education. Driven by a desire to make the most of our strengths and clearly convey our opinions, we decided to participate in the Japanese Debate Forum.

<Students>

1st Year: Ayaka Mikami, Kaisei Takahashi

The country assigned by the secretariat was “India.” The development of science and technology-related companies in India has been remarkable, and the country is also becoming increasingly prominent in space development. It is one of the nations promoting lunar exploration, manned spaceflight, and the expansion of the private space industry. Regarding the peaceful use of outer space, we took on the challenge of balancing the country’s own interests with the interests of the world, while also taking scientific evidence into account.

In the Japanese-language session, participants from Saitama City schools as well as Omiya Science and Technology High School took part, generating a wealth of multifaceted ideas. Each school had thoroughly researched the country they were representing, and the students fully immersed themselves in their roles as ambassadors, weaving together keywords such as “global development,” “ensuring safety,” “fair rules,” “short-term benefits,” and “long-term benefits.”

The process of weighing a country’s interests against the interests of the world, engaging in thorough discussions, and working out compromises felt like a combination of a class meeting and an international conference. Perhaps world peace can, surprisingly, be fostered through discussions like those held in a class meeting.

It was a truly valuable experience.
