大宮国際中等教育学校（MOIS）を訪問！言語の壁を越えた深い交流

プログラム3日目は、さいたま市立大宮国際中等教育学校（MOIS）を訪問しました。

心温まるウェルカム・セレモニー 到着すると、MOISの生徒たちによる中国語での歓迎スピーチに迎えられました。全員で車座になり、日本語での「フルーツバスケット」に挑戦！言葉やルールの垣根を越え、会場は一気に笑顔に包まれました。

「日本文化体験」

抹茶と書道 午前中は茶道体験を行いました。MOISの生徒からお点前を披露された後、今度は台湾の生徒たちが自らお茶を点てる体験に挑戦。慣れない正座に苦戦しながらも、和菓子と共に日本文化の神髄を楽しみました。午後の書道体験では、それぞれが思いを込めた漢字を色紙に認め、個性豊かな作品が並びました。

「他言語による意見交換」

英語と中国語によるディスカッション メインプログラムでは、両国の社会課題について高校生の視点から議論を行いました。英語を基本としつつ、中国語が堪能なMOISの生徒たちがサポートに回る場面もあり、非常にハイレベルで有意義な意見交換の場となりました。

プログラム終了後は、バディの生徒たちと一緒に大宮散策へ。氷川神社やさいたま新都心周辺を歩き、冬の日本の風景を楽しみながら交流を締めくくりました。

Sakura Science Exchange Program:

Deepening Bonds at Omiya International Secondary School (MOIS)

On the third day of the program, our guests from Songshan Senior High School visited Saitama City Omiya International Secondary School (MOIS) for a full day of cultural and intellectual exchange.

A Warm Welcome and Ice-breaking The day began with a heartfelt welcome ceremony. MOIS students greeted the guests in Chinese, and everyone gathered in a circle to get to know one another. To break the ice, the students played “Fruit Basket” in Japanese. The room was quickly filled with laughter, instantly bridging the gap between the two schools.

Cultural Experience: Matcha and Calligraphy The students paired up with “buddies” to experience traditional Japanese tea culture. After being served tea by the MOIS students, the guest students tried whisking their own Matcha. While some found the traditional “Seiza” (kneeling) position a bit challenging, their smiles showed how much they enjoyed the authentic taste of Japan. Later in the day, they practiced “Shodo” (calligraphy), carefully brushing meaningful kanji characters onto decorative paper boards (shikishi).

High-Level Discussion on Global Issues The main event was a student-led discussion. Students from both schools defined social issues facing Japan and Taiwan and brainstormed solutions from a high schooler’s perspective. The discussion was primarily in English, but with several MOIS students being fluent in Chinese, ideas flowed seamlessly across multiple languages. The high level of engagement and mutual respect made it a truly meaningful session.

Exploring Omiya Together To conclude the day, the students headed out for a walk around the local area. Guided by their MOIS buddies, they visited the historic Hikawa Shrine and explored the Saitama Shintoshin area. It was a perfect end to a day dedicated to building lasting friendships and cultural understanding.
